Diffusion Time Calculator

This calculator helps students to better understand neurotransmission at chemical synapses. For estimating the time required for diffusion of the neurotransmitter glutamate across the synaptic cleft assume the distance between the pre-synaptic membrane and the post-synaptic membrane to be 20 nm. The diffusion coefficient of glutamate in the synaptic cleft is approxiamtely 330 μm2/s.
