Oronce Finé, A Modern and Complete Map of the World (Recens et integra orbis description,1534)

The French cosmographer, geographer, and mathematician Oronce Finé (1494-1555) produced this heart-shaped map of the world, originally entitled A Modern and Complete Map of the World (Recens et integra orbis description, Paris, 1534) where China and Mexico overlap. This printed copy was made in Venice in 1566.

The map is heart shaped. Angels sit around the map.

In this map, China and Mexico overlap. Tanget or northern China, Canbalu, Messigo or Mexico, Catay or China, Mangi or South China, and Cattigara are shown in the map.
