The Mac OS package is compressed as a zip archive (.zip). It can be expanded with the built-in software. The Windows package is compressed as a zip archive (.zip) and can be expanded with PKZip or similar packages, or, in newer versions of Windows, can be simply opened in the file explorer. The Linux package is a GZipped "tarball" (.tgz) which can be expanded with the command tar -xzvf [filename].tgz (where [filename] is the name of the package you are expanding).
