Movies from real research: Dorsal closure in Drosphila

Movie showing dorsal closure in Drosophila. This process which occurs late in Drosophila embryogenesis, results in the closure of a dorsal epidermal gap that exists and which is transiently covered by a squamous epithelium, the amnioserosa. During this process, the amnioserosa contracts and disappears inside the embryo at the same time that both sides of the epidermis reach dorsally towards the midline. As dorsal closure proceeds, the embryo acquires its final shape. Movie courtesy Nicole Gorfinkiel.
