Normative Ethics Theories of Right Conduct

Fred Feldman’s Introductory Ethics (Prentice-Hall, 1978) and Mark Timmons’s Moral Theory, 2nd ed. (Rowman and Littlefield, 2013) are both very solid and reliable sources for the details and philosophical attractions and problems of the major normative ethical views. Three very good anthologies provide fairly accessible survey articles of the major theories in normative ethics. One of these is A Companion to Ethics (Blackwell, 1991), edited by Peter Singer. Another is the Blackwell Guide to Ethical Theory (Blackwell, 2013), edited by Hugh LaFollette and Ingmar Persson. The last is The Oxford Handbook of Ethical Theory (Oxford University Press, 2007), edited by David Copp. The Encyclopedia of Ethics (Garland, 1992), edited by Lawrence and Charlotte Becker, is available in most college and university libraries and offers entries on all of the topics covered in this book.
