1. Examine the history of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). Is there any point at which this bureau has been helpful to American Indians? At which points in history was the BIA specifically working to harm American Indians? What is the current relationship between tribes and the U.S. bureaucracy?
2. Go to the website for the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) (http://www.justice.gov/crt/) to examine the specific types of civil rights cases the DOJ is working to resolve and the areas it has identified as currently problematic. Determine whether there are particular civil rights issues that are missing from their focus.
3. Examine the ways in which the policies of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) under the Trump administration differ as compared to those under the Trump administration. What are the similarities and differences between the two administrations’ approaches to undocumented immigrant children?
