  1. The Misrepresentation Act 1967 received Royal Assent on 22 March 1967. This date can be found after the long title of the Act.
  2. The long title of the Act is ‘An Act to amend the law relating to innocent misrepresentation and to amend sections 11 and 35 of the Sale of Goods Act 1893’.
  3. The citation of the Act is ‘1967 Chapter 7’.
  4. ‘1967 Chapter 7’ signifies that the Act was the seventh to be enacted in 1967.
  5. This question requires you to do some legal research as explained in chapter 2. Remember that the provisions of an Act come into force on the date of Royal Assent unless the Act itself states otherwise. Figure 3.5 only provides a small extract from the Misrepresentation Act 1967, so you will firstly need to find the whole of the Act to see if it contains any specific commencement provisions. These are normally found towards the end of the Act. You should find that s 6(2) of the Act provides that:

This Act shall come shall come into operation at the expiration of the period of one month beginning with the date on which it is passed
Therefore the Misrepresentation Act 1967 came into force on 22 April 1967—one month after it received Royal Assent.
