Transcript Area

We want to know the wording of Section 15A of the Theft Act 1968 as it stood on the twentieth of January 1995. So we're in Westlaw, we can go off to the Legislation tab and we're looking for Historic Law now. So the clue is here, it says, “for Historic Law use Advanced Search”. So we click through, and we can say what we want here: the first thing that we want to do is select the point in time at which we want to do our search. So we can say, we’d like to know what the law said on the twentieth of January 1995, and the particular statute we are after is the Theft Act 1968 and we want Section 15A. So, we’ve got Theft Act 68, just to check, Section 15A as at twentieth of January 1995. So, we’ll do our search there. And we get nothing. So what does that tell us? It actually tells us that Section 15A wasn’t enforced on the twentieth of January 1995. In actual fact, it came into force on the eighteenth of December 1996.
