So the first thing that we need to find out here is the primary statutory provision concerning the use of poison against grey squirrels and coypus. A coypu, for what it's worth, is a very large rodent. So we are being asked to find a statutory provision. We are here in Westlaw, and we will go and have a look in “Legislation” because that's where statutory provisions will live. Now, for something like this which is a bit random we've got the option to search by free text and it's reasonable to assume that there isn't that much legislation that mentions grey squirrels and coypus, so we'll start by seeing what the free text search gives us. Search that.

And we’ve got five hits. We’ve got three references to the Agriculture (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, an Order, a Scottish statutory instrument, and something to do with hovercrafts which I'm guessing isn’t that relevant. If we look here it actually mentions in the list the use of poison against grey squirrels and coypus. So we can click through to see what that is, click through to Section 19.

We have here the primary statutory provision that deals with the use of poison against grey squirrels and coypus, so the answer to the first part of the question is: Section 19 of the Agriculture (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act (1972).

We are then asked to go on to see what secondary legislation was made under this provision and that's really easy because it's all listed down here on the left hand side. So if we go down to look at S.I.s made under the Act, straight away we find out that the statutory instrument made under it is the Grey Squirrels (Warfarin) Order 1973/744. And if you really want to go and see what that’s all about, you can click through on it.
